What We Do

At the existing DYC programs, there are four main focuses being formed: Academics, Sports, Wellness and Leadership & Spiritual Development. These three focuses aim to serve the needs of students through different avenues (recreation, education, etc.), but ultimately all intend to empower students with tools to move them towards success.

  • The objective of enhancing the DYC Academic Success program is to be able to provide students with the proper tools to achieve their highest potential academically, by providing tutoring services, as well as opportunities for extra assistance during exam seasons. Derick Lwugi believed that “education is the greatest tool for poverty alleviation”, and by providing them with caring mentorship, assistance, study tools, and consistency, this program will seek to remove some of the obstacles that are currently impeding on our students' academic success.

  • At The DYC we strive to offer a comprehensive range of wellness care services designed to support the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of young individuals. These services typically include every student is fed during our programs, access to a youth advocate that address and supports our students needs with various resources, activities to promote physical health, counselling and mental health support and more.

  • We believe sports naturally foster community, teamwork, and personal growth among young people. Engaging in sports can attract a diverse group of youth, creating an inclusive environment where positive values and life skills are taught through play and competition. It provides a platform to build trust, mentorship, and share faith in a relatable and impactful way.

  • Leadership and spiritual development is crucial for youth as it developes their character and equips them with the skills to navigate life's challenges and opportunities. We stive to develop faith-centred leadership qualities such as servanthood, integrity, wisdom, humility and compassion in all our students. Developing leadership in youth cultivates the next generation of capable and ethical leaders, ensuring a brighter and more resilient future for society.
